Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD)
The ‘building blocks’ of protein are called amino acids. In Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD), due to the lack of an enzyme the body cannot properly deal with the branched chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine. Therefore, people with MSUD need to severely restrict the amount of protein eaten.
A key element in the management of MSUD is the use of MSUD formula, which provides all the amino acids found in protein but no leucine, isoleucine or valine. MSUD formulas support adequate intake of protein in combination with the small allowance of regular dietary protein.
Vitaflo North America offers a wide range of MSUD formulas for the dietary management of MSUD from childhood through adulthood. If you have additional questions about Vitaflo’s range of MSUD products, please feel free to contact us.
